Khemikal
Joe Coghill was born in 1989 in Worcester, UK. A music enthusiast from the beginning, he grew up listening to a mixture of his fathers vast Dub reggae collection, as well as enjoying a range of musical genres from Punk and Ska to Heavy Metal. His first experience of Drum and Bass was in 2005, when a friend played him Pendulum’s Hold Your Colour album. Immediately, a new passion was born for the genre, a passion which has kept growing ever since. Joe began exploring all types of Drum and Bass, and found clear influences from the Dub Reggae he loved so much in artist’s music such as Terry T and Shy FX. The album, Diary of a Digital Soundboy’ by Shy FX was the first DnB album he purchased and still remains to this day his favourite.
Joe began DJing in 2009, when his girlfriend brought him a set of vinyl turntables. After a year of DJing he decided he wanted to pursue his passion further and learn to produce the music he loved so much. In 2010 he attended a 2 year course at Worcester University called ‘Urban and Electronic Music Production’. During the course he was one of three students to have a track signed to one of the tutor’s labels and was featured in a local newspaper who ran the story.
Since then he has had tracks signed to labels including, In Da Jungle (Canada), Shiftin’ Beatz (UK) and of course AFT Records. He has also seen support on his music from artists like Voltage, Rene Lavice, BBC Radio 1, Kenny Ken, S.P.Y. Macky Gee and many More. For the last couple of years he has been working closely with AFT Records putting out numerous releases and playing sell out shows!
2018 is gonna be huge for Khemikal, keep an eye out for Volume 2 of the Compound EP along other releases and catch him smashing up clubs and festivals with the AFT family!
